What makes Podia different from Teachable?

It comes down to what the two platforms let you, the entrepreneur, do.

Podia vs. Teachable: Which is right for me?

Great question! We obviously think we’re pretty great, but here’s an honest answer:

Both platforms let you sell online courses and coaching. Both give you landing pages, affiliate program tools, and helpful selling features like coupons, payment plans, and upsells.

But while Teachable is primarily an online course platform, Podia is an all-in-one platform that can replace many tools for your business, including your website builder, community, email marketing platform, blog, affiliate management system, live chat tool, and much more.

Let’s take a closer look at how Podia and Teachable stack up.

You can sell online courses, downloads, coaching, and other products with Podia and Teachable, but Teachable has limits on all plans.

Teachable offers courses, downloads, and coaching, but there are limits to how many products you can sell on each plan.

Teachable plan limits:

  • Starter: 5 products

  • Builder: 10 products

  • Growth: 50 products

If you want to make more than 50 products on Teachable, you'll need to work with them for a custom pricing solution that could be much more expensive than the base plans available.

With Podia, you can sell online courses, downloads, webinars, coaching, subscriptions, and product bundles. Everything is unlimited on Mover and Shaker plans, so you can design the best learning experience for your students.

By choosing a platform with unlimited products and many different product types like Podia, your business has room to grow. You may come up with an idea for a fabulous new ebook or an awesome webinar, and it’s inconvenient (and expensive) to find a new tool each time.

Instead, you can just log into your Podia, make a new product, press publish, and you'll be ready to go. Everything you create lives under one roof, and you don't have to worry about running out of space for products.

(Plus, if you already have digital products on another platform, Podia has free migrations when you sign up for a monthly or annual Mover, Shaker, or Podia Email plan. See how Podia's customer support can help you make the switch!)

You can set up a beautiful learning experience with native course creation tools

With Podia, you can create standalone courses, drip content courses, or cohort courses with unlimited modules and lessons. The course builder is easy to use, and course content is displayed in a clean, distraction-free interface.

Add multiple-choice quizzes and course completion certificates to keep students engaged. To validate your idea, you can waitlist, pre-launch, and pre-sell courses to your audience. You can also offer upsells to increase your earnings per sale.

Teachable courses come with unlimited lessons as well as quizzes, course completion certificates, and course compliance functionality. Course design templates are available on all plans to help you get started quickly.

When it comes to the content within your products, both Teachable and Podia allow you to add a variety of file formats like PDFs, images, audio files, and videos.

Podia has a full website builder, Teachable has a store page

Teachable and Podia both let you make a website and sales pages that showcases your products.

Teachable offers a customizable storefront for your courses and products. This page is referred to as your “Teachable School.” You can add different content blocks on your school page to tell visitors about your business and highlight your products. You can add up to 25 custom pages to your Teachable website.

If you'd like to connect a custom domain, you can do so on Teachable's Builder plan which starts at $69 per month. You can also add custom css snippets and third-party integrations on the Builder plan.

With Podia’s website builder, you can design a full website for your business or brand with unlimited pages. You can also create as many sales pages and landing pages as you need to promote your work.

You can easily edit the design and layout of your Podia site with just a few clicks, even if you don’t know how to code. Display testimonials, share your story, sort products by categories, highlight your best products, and grow your email list. You can do it all using Podia’s beginner friendly site editor.

If you want to connect a custom domain, add custom CSS, or work with third-party integrations, you can do all that on the Mover plan which starts at $33 per month.

Podia has blogging built in alongside your products, website, and email list

One of the key differences between Podia and Teachable is that you can build your full blog with Podia, and it’s already connected to the rest of your business. Your blog is automatically linked to your website, products, and email list, so it's easy to send visitors from blog posts, to your email list, to your products, and back again.

You can add unlimited blog posts and customize the design and layout of your articles, as well as your blog landing page. And if you have a blog on another platform, you can import your existing blog content using the Podia's blog post importer.

Plus, you can do all your blogging using the same user-friendly website builder so you don’t need to learn any new tools.

Teachable does not have a blogging feature, so you’ll need to use a third-party platform to set up a blogging in your online business.

Podia has full email marketing. Teachable has basic email broadcasts.

With Podia, you get a complete email marketing toolkit built in which includes automations, campaigns, tagging, segmentation, and newsletter templates. You can add a newsletter opt-in form to your website, offer a free lead magnet to grow your list, and build automated campaigns based on actions your audience members take with your business.

All email features are free for your first 100 subscribers, and you can send unlimited emails every month on all Podia Email plans. You only need to upgrade when your list grows, and plans are competitively priced, starting at just $7 per month for up to 500 subscribers.

Teachable takes a different approach. Their email tool is available on the Builder plan ($89/month, or $69/month billed annually) and above, but it only lets you message people who have already purchased or enrolled through your school. There's no newsletter sign-up form, no lead magnet functionality, no email templates, and no automated campaigns.

It's a way to broadcast announcements to existing students, not a tool for building an audience or driving new sales. If growing your email list is part of your business, you'll need to pay for a separate email marketing platform on top of Teachable.

Affiliate marketing with Podia and Teachable

Speaking of marketing tools, both Teachable and Podia have built-in affiliate marketing features.

Affiliates are available on Podia's Shaker plan and the affiliate feature works with all product types. You decide what commissions you pay, what products are eligible, and how long your cookie window lasts. You can make your affiliate program public or invite-only, and Podia automatically keeps track of your affiliates in your audience tab so you can send out custom email updates just for them.

Teachable offers traditional affiliate marketing features on the Builder plan. Just like with Podia, you manage affiliate invites and customize what products are eligible to earn a commission. In addition to affiliates, Teachable course creators can also set up a student referral program which allows existing customers to share products with their friends for a discounted price.

Pricing for Podia and Teachable

Podia and Teachable both have several plans so you can choose the best fit for your business.

Podia pricing:

Podia has two plans to choose from, as well as a 30-day free trial. All plans have checkout features and payment options like payment plans, waitlists, preselling, and monthly subscriptions.

  • Mover: $39/month or $33/month paid annually (5% transaction fee): Includes your website, blog, landing pages, and link in bio, plus unlimited digital downloads, online courses, webinars, product bundles, and coaching sessions. There are also more selling features like coupons, upsells, and access limits.

  • Shaker: $89/month or $75/month paid annually (no transaction fees): Includes everything in Mover plus affiliate marketing.

See what’s included with each Podia plan here.

In addition to having all the features you need to build a great online business, Podia also has free migrations on all paid plans. This means that if you already have courses or products on another platform, the team will move everything over for you so you don't have to rebuild from scratch.

Teachable pricing plans:

Teachable has three main pricing plans and a 7-day free trial. They also offer a custom Enterprise plan for larger organizations, which requires contacting their sales team.

  • Starter: $39/month with a 7.5% transaction fee ($29/month when paid annually): Includes 1 published product, up to 100 students, affiliate program, course certificates, upsells and cart recovery, global payments and tax handling, and live chat support

  • Builder: $89/month with 0% transaction fee ($69/month when paid annually): Includes 5 published products, up to 1,000 students, and everything in Starter, plus real-time support

  • Growth: $189/month with 0% transaction fee ($139/month when paid annually): Includes 25 published products, up to 5,000 students, 5 admin users, and everything in Builder, plus the ability to import students

Let's run the numbers to get a better picture of how much you'll pay with each platform.

Both Podia's Mover plan and Teachable's Starter plan cost $39/month, but Teachable charges slightly more in transaction fees. If you earn $500 in a month, here's what you actually pay:

On Teachable's Starter plan: $39 for the plan plus $37.50 in transaction fees (7.5%) comes to $76.50 total. You're also capped at one published product and 100 students.

On Podia's Mover plan: $39 for the plan plus $25 in transaction fees (5%) comes to $64 total, with unlimited products and no student caps.

Now let's look at what happens as you grow. Once you're earning more than $667/month on Teachable's Starter plan, the 7.5% transaction fees cost more than the $50/month price difference to upgrade to the Builder plan. So Teachable effectively pushes you to $89/month before you've hit $1,000 in revenue.

At $1,000/month in earnings, here's the full picture:

  • Teachable Starter: $39 + $75 in fees = $114/month

  • Teachable Builder: $89 + $0 in fees = $89/month

  • Podia Mover: $39 + $50 in fees = $89/month

  • Podia Shaker: $89 + $0 in fees = $89/month

At that revenue level, Podia Mover and Teachable Builder cost exactly the same. But Teachable Builder limits you to 5 published products and a thousand students. Podia's Shaker plan is also $89/month with 0% transaction fees but there are no product limits or student caps, so you have much more space to grow.
