Send emails without ads for other people’s newsletters

ConvertKit (now known as Kit) is free for up to 10,000 subscribers, but their free plan places ads to other newsletters in your emails. Podia has your email list, newsletters, landing pages, and automations (without ads) in the same place as your website and products –  with fair pricing as your list grows.

Podia vs. ConvertKit: Which one is right for me?

Podia and ConvertKit (now known as Kit) are both tools for managing and automating your email marketing. But with Podia you can also build a full website, blog, and link-in-bio page, and you can create digital products to sell through your online store on Podia too.

ConvertKit focuses primarily on email and is known for their visual automation builder.

Podia is an all-in-one platform where you can run your email marketing, and create automated campaigns, newsletters, landing pages, and audience segments — at one of the most competitive price points in the industry.

Of course, every creator business is unique and the right tools for you will depend on what you need them to do. Let’s take a look at how Podia vs. ConvertKit compare on features, functionality, and price.

What are Podia vs. ConvertKit’s pricing options?

Both Podia and ConvertKit have different plan options so you can choose what works for your business.

With Podia, you can choose the Mover or Shaker base plan and add on email subscribers as needed.

Podia base plan pricing:

  • Mover: $39/month or $33/month when paid annually (5% transaction fee), includes your website, blog, landing pages, custom domain, and unlimited digital products, unlimited courses, and our simple online course builder

  • Shaker: $89/month or $75/month when paid annually, includes everything on the Mover plan plus affiliates

Both plans include up to 100 subscribers and unlimited email sends. As your business grows, you can choose upgrade your Podia email add-on for more subscribers.

Podia email add-on pricing:

  • Up to 500 subscribers: $9/month

  • Up to 1,500 subscribers: $17/month

  • Up to 2,500 subscribers: $25/month

  • Up to 5,000 subscribers: $42/month

  • Up to 10,000 subscribers: $63/month

  • See the full pricing scale here

ConvertKit has three plans that each increase in price as you add more subscribers.

  • Free plan: Up to 10,000 subscribers, unlimited email sends, 1 automation, and 1 email sequence

  • Creator plan: Starting at $15/month for 300 subscribers, $29/month for 1,000 subscribers, $79/month for 5,000 subscribers, etc.

  • Creator Pro plan: Starting at $29/month for 300 subscribers, $59/month for 1,000 subscribers, $111/month for 5,000 subscribers, etc.

Let’s say you have an email list with 5,000 subscribers.

With Podia, you could sign up for the Mover plan for $33/month (paid annually) to get unlimited courses and products. You could also add the email add-on for $34/month (paid annually) and you’d pay a total of $67/month.

With ConvertKit, you could stay on the free plan if you are okay with only one automation, one email sequence, and required cross promotion.

If you wanted more features or the option to remove ads for other people’s newsletters, you could choose the Creator plan for $79/month for 5,000 subscribers or the Creator Pro plan for $111/month for 5,000 subscribers.

However, ConvertKit doesn’t include online courses, customer messaging, your website, or your blog. If you want these features, you might need to integrate with third-party platforms and use a connecting tool like Zapier, all of which may come at an extra cost.

Bottom line, Podia can save you hundreds or even thousands a year, especially as your list grows.

What will my emails look like?

You can send unlimited emails with Podia and ConvertKit, but what will those emails look like?

ConvertKit has an email tool that doesn’t require code. You can add embeds and blocks with design elements, choose from starter templates, or create your own email templates to match your brand.

With Podia, you have an easy email designer where you can click to add buttons, text sections, images, columns, and even pull in posts from your Podia blog. You can embed videos from YouTube, add file downloads directly in your email, promote your digital products, or share anything else you like.

You can choose from over a dozen professionally-designed templates, start from scratch, or create your own templates in just a few clicks. You don’t need to know how to code, and all your emails are optimized for desktop and mobile.

Because Podia Email is connected to your website and blog, the global colors you set for your website will carry over into the email designer so you can make your messages look cohesive with the rest of your branding. There are also plenty of fonts, dividers, and layout elements to choose from.

Plus, Podia has “view in browser” functionality, which gives you the option of creating a unique URL for each email so you can share it other places online.

Automation keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes

The ability to run automated email campaigns can be an important piece of your email marketing strategy. Both Podia and ConvertKit allow you to create marketing automations and sales funnels to get more customers on autopilot and engage your fans, even when you’re not online.

With Podia, you can build automations and campaigns with entrance and exit conditions. Set up email automations to go out whenever someone purchases a product, enrolls in your course, joins your email list, or downloads a free lead magnet.

On Podia’s email marketing platform, you can also create unlimited beginner-friendly automations no matter your list size, allowing you to experiment before upgrading for more subscribers.

ConvertKit has complex automation tools, but the free plan only comes with one automation and one email sequence. On the paid plans, however, you can use the visual automation builder to design intricate email automation systems and workflows. These features are most helpful for small business owners and entrepreneurs who need complicated email campaigns.

ConvertKit has landing pages. Podia has your landing pages, website, and blog.

Both ConvertKit and Podia make it easy to build great looking landing pages so you can promote your email list and products.

One difference is that ConvertKit requires that you start with premade templates, while Podia gives you more customization options. You can start from scratch or use any of the pre-designed email opt-in forms, and easily add other elements like FAQs, testimonials, creator bio sections, text, images, and anything else you want to your landing pages.

In addition to landing pages, Podia also comes with a full website builder and blog. Your website can have unlimited pages, and you can customize settings like your fonts, global colors, spacing, padding, navigation, footer, and images to make your site look like you.

And because your Podia blog is already connected to your email service provider, you can automatically pull in blog content to your newsletter or send an email to your list in just a click after you publish a new blog post.

Monetize your passions through digital products

Podia and ConvertKit both allow you to sell digital products.

Here’s what you can sell with Podia:

  • Digital downloads and files

  • Online courses

  • Email courses

  • Live or pre-recorded webinars

  • Coaching sessions

  • Upsells

  • Product bundles

Here’s what you can sell with ConvertKit:

  • Digital downloads and files

  • Subscriptions

  • Coaching sessions

  • Newsletters

A differentiator is that Podia includes an online course builder with the ability to sell unlimited live cohort, self-paced, drip, and access-limited courses on all plans. If you want to sell courses with ConvertKit, you’d need to connect with a separate online course platform.

Podia charges a 5% transaction fee on the Mover plan, and no transaction fees on the Shaker plan. ConvertKit charges a 3.5% + $0.30 transaction fee on all plans, even the highest-tier paid plan.

Podia users can connect with Stripe or PayPal for payment processing. ConvertKit uses Stripe for payment processing.

Stay connected with customer messaging

Ever wish you had an easy way to chat with people who visit your website? Customer messaging makes it possible, and it’s included with all Podia plans.

On your Podia website, you can enable customer messaging and a chat box will appear in the bottom corner. Get to know your customers when they’re visiting your website or logged into your products to provide that extra special touchpoint.

ConvertKit does not have customer messaging built in, so to get this feature, you would need to integrate with another tool that might have an additional cost.

Some plans come with free migrations

Podia will migrate your email list, segments, tags, subscribers, 5 templates, and 10 email campaigns for free when you sign up for any monthly or annual paid Email plan.

If you also sell digital products, we’ll migrate:

  • 20 products when you sign up for an annual Mover plan

  • 30 products with an annual Shaker plan

  • 10 products with a monthly Mover or Shaker plan combined with an annual Podia Email plan

ConvertKit offers free migrations on the Creator plan and the Creator Pro plan. ConvertKit’s migration offer includes your forms, templates, and automations.

With Podia, everyone has access to friendly email support, live chat support, Podia’s lively community, training courses, guides, and our knowledge base.

ConvertKit also offers customer support on all plans with priority support on the Creator Pro plan. They also have a ConvertKit community and knowledge base.

To wrap up, ConvertKit is email marketing software that specializes in complex automation and sales funnels. It’s possible to sell digital products and there’s a free plan, but plans can get pricey as your list size grows.
